Silk Street Sinfonietta is a London-based ensemble
dedicated to showcasing young talent and championing new music. Founded in 2022
and comprised of students from London’s leading conservatoires, the Sinfonietta
has been a regular presence at the Guildhall School, where it performs new
music by both established and emerging composers alongside core 20th
centure repertoire.
Committed to premiering a new work at every concert, the
ensemble’s repertoire ranges from intimate clarinet quartets and chamber operas
to important works by composers such as Ligeti, Hans Abrahamsen, Hollie Harding
and Sylvia Lim. Embracing a broad spectrum of styles and aesthetics, the
Sinfonietta is passionate about fostering a vibrant platform for both
established and emerging composers.
At the heart of the Sinfonietta’s mission is a safe,
inclusive, and pedagogically focused environment that nurtures creativity
through collaborative workshops and rehearsals. By inviting experienced
composers such as Julian Anderson and Laurence Crane to mentor and support the
next generation, the ensemble cultivates meaningful artistic development for
composers and players alike.
We are committed to representing composers from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Our ensemble is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all voices are heard, valued, and empowered.
Recent highlights include hosting the Guildhall School of
Music Composition department Open Day concert in Milton Court in February 2025,
which has strengthened the ensemble’s collaborative spirit and public profile.
Looking ahead, the Silk Street Sinfonietta aims to deepen its partnership with
the Guildhall School to further enrich education and expand opportunities for young
musicians and composers, sharing their work with a wider community.
The Silk Street Sinfonietta was co-founded and is run by
Antoine Veillerette and Yotham Ben Yami.
